So here we are again …. Christmas season.
I must say, Christmas did seem different when I was small. It was special – it was about family, and sharing, and happiness. And the gifts were special too, because there were only three or four.
Christmas nowadays is far removed from these memories. The shops seem to be peopled by a frenzied crowd driven by greed and ostentation. Everybody must receive gifts, and not just small tokens, but proper expensive offerings that are meant to impress.
In the end, when receiving 50 gifts, none of them ends up being special or memorable. But they do serve as a serious indictment if you forgot to also give any of those gift givers something. What’s the point? Is there still any valid purpose to giving all these gifts?
My take? Give gifts only to the few children closest to you. For the rest, this year, instead of giving meaningless things to people who already have more than they need, why not give something to the less fortunate?
So this week no Igi nor Amos, but here’s my vision of Christmas present!
